📰 FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 — P4HR Reviewing HIMS Impact

A major new law was signed in May 2024: the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. Inside this 1,000+ page bill are two key provisions that could help reshape how the FAA handles airmen with medical certification issues — including those in the HIMS Program.

P4HR is currently conducting a full analysis of the law and its impact, but here’s what we know so far:

✅ Section 407 – Airman’s Medical Bill of Rights

The right to choose your own AME
The right to be treated with dignity and privacy
The right to report AME misconduct without retaliation
The right to know your rights clearly before and after exams

It’s the first time Congress has formally recognized that airmen need protection in the medical process — something HIMS participants have gone without for years.

🧠 Section 411 – Aeromedical Innovation and Modernization Working Group

Whether certain conditions (e.g., ADHD, PTSD, mental health medication) even need Special Issuance
Whether faith-based programs like HIMS are appropriate
How the FAA can modernize and streamline the certification process

This group is required by law to study the HIMS Program itself and report on alternatives.
